OVERVIEW
 
Terri Henry is the director and founder of natural wellness and sustainability business, Onelove Livity. www.onelovelivity.com She is a natural health practitioner, facilitator and educator whose work spans a variety of professions. Terri has been involved in the Health and Wellness industry from the age of 15 and has developed a strong network of pioneering leaders around the world. Since moving to Dominica in 2004 she has actively contributed to developing this sector on the island. More than just an occupation, health and wellness is her natural way of being that she incorporates into her everyday lifestyle. Terri is a vibrant and multifaceted individual who easily interacts with all levels of society. She is the proud mother of a girl, born in July 2008 and a boy born in October 2009.

ECOTOURISM

Land Planning Consultant

  • Led onsite workshops to inform the planning process enhance the development of master plans for Ecolodge projects in Dominica, Belize and Costa Rica.
  • Specialized in developing eco spa strategies with advice on specific wellness services that are in harmony with the local environment for Ecolodges in Belize and Costa Rica.

 
Research for the ‘Authentic Ecolodges’ book
  • Wrote the book proposal for the upcoming book by Ecolodge and Sustainable Tourism expert Hitesh Mehta and gained a publishing contract with Harper Collins.
  • Conducted web based and publications research on all Ecolodges around the world.
  • Evaluated each Ecolodge based on international criteria and compiled an extensive guide on those selected for inclusion in the book.
  • Visited and researched Ecolodges in Belize, Saba, St John, Dominica, Kenya and Uganda.

 
Health and Wellness Tourism Consultant
  • Terri has worked as a consultant for the Discover Dominica Authority to promote and increase Health and Wellness Tourism on the island.
  • March-May 2009 - Terri researched and wrote an online directory listing all the major natural wellness practitioners on the island which can now be found on the Discover Dominica Website. She also hosted a press conference to launch the site followed by a one-day Health and Wellness Symposium.
  • May 2010 - Terri organised a raw foods workshop featuring Chantel Selman from Barbados and a one-day Health and Wellness Expo which featured an exhibition of locally available Health & Wellness services and products, a vibrant program of interactive classes and workshops and an ital foods bar.

 
Policy Development
  • Participant at the 9th Annual Conference on Caribbean Sustainable Tourism in Cayman, May 2007
  • In 2006 Terri wrote a white paper on Health and Wellness tourism in Dominica based on what she felt was the urgent need to address the gaps in the industry and make it a more profitable one. With her experience in multiple aspects of this field she is well positioned to deliver high quality services that will further enhance and develop this sector.

 
ECOPSYCHOLOGY – Reconnection to Nature
  • Facilitator for unique Ecotherapy workshops in London, Jamaica, Belize, Florida and in Dominica with tour operator KHATTS. These innovative and experiential practices give participants the opportunity to enjoy genuine sensory connection with nature and inspire new perspectives on personal fulfillment, social responsibility and environmental care.

  • Worked for several years in Dominica as a massage therapist.
  • Creator and facilitator of the one-day ‘Learn Massage’ workshop which teaches participants the healing power of touch. Four successful programs hosted to date.
  • Massage education delivered at the Health & Beauty symposium, 2005, ‘Kid’s Day Dominica’ , 2006 and Natural Healing seminar with master herbalist Bobby Olivacee, 2006

 
GLOBAL EVENTS FOR HEALTH AND SUSTAINABILITY.
  • Presentation on Ecopsychology for Broward Environment Group, Florida, 2007
  • Guest facilitator at the ‘Veg Soul’ raw food holistic health retreat in Jamaica, 2004 and subsequently bought the program to Dominica in 2006.  
  • Volunteer at the 3-day Bioneers conference in Atlanta, Georgia, 2005
  • Education Africa Teaching (E.A.T) - delivered 6 months of holistic health education, and supported young people on a 3 week journey to West Africa, 2002
  • Schools of Unified Learning (SOUL) - participated and assisted with a martial arts graduation programme in Jamaica, 2001
  • Employed with several large-scale charities in the UK including: The Children’s Society, WaterAid and The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. Organised national fundraising events, campaigns, and managed administration and databases.
  • Collaborated with ‘Mothership Edutainment’  to organised a venture that took inner city groups of African Caribbean heritage for a 3 day visit to the Centre of Alternative Technology in Wales
  • Completed a Permaculture Design Course, 2002 and immediately dug up her concrete patio and planted a herb garden! Terri continues to use the Permaculture principles of Earth Care, People Care & Fair Share in all her projects and everyday life.
  • Member of the Dominica Organic Agriculture Movement (DOAM), The National Association of Youth in Agriculture (NAYA), and the Sustainable Living Initiative Centre (SLIC).
