The Marvel of Snappi Fasteners

After almost 7 months of using pins on my cloth diapers, I have finally been privileged to use the marvelous Snappi fasteners. Yes, my days of desperately trying to avoid stabbing my wiggling baby with sharp pins are over!

Snappi Fastners are a simple, yet genius invention that allow you to fasten a cloth diaper on the outside without using any pins. The fastener grips in three places on the diaper – left, right and the centre - to give an easy and secure hold that really is as easy as 1-2-3. When looking at the photos of Snappi’s online I had wondered if they could possibly be as good as the many positive reviews said they were. Now I have used them and found that they really do work I have to add my own glowing report!

Snappis were the brain child of Hennie Visser who, after the birth of his daughter, decided that he had to create a simpler alternative to pins. His original prototype was made with wood and tin and after the idea was successful he went into production with plastic. Now the idea has been patented and millions of snappis have been sold throughout the world. They come in a variety of colours and it says on the packet that they can be used for up to six months so my next eco-mission is to find out how they breakdown and a good way to recycle them.

Interestingly, as simple as the Snappis are, it has not been a simple story for me to get them. The Snappis were recommended as an item to purchase alongside the Chinese Unbleached Prefold Diaper and so I put them on my baby registry. Unfortunately they were out of stock at the time so I found them on another website and tried to order but they would not accept my Dominican card. So then my dear Mama bought some and sent them to me from the UK but the parcel went missing…I was beginning to think it was a conspiracy!!

Thankfully I was able to recently order them through Amazon, ship them through E-zone and they take pride of place in my baby bottom changing bag. Now that I have them my diaper changing days have been revolutionized in more ways than one. Not only is it a lot easier for me, but my nearest and dearest who have continually used the excuse that they cannot change the baby because they are afraid of the pin, will have to get to work and help me out!
