Do you ever get the feeling, when you get something really good you want to share your find with others? Well I recently got some new baby bags that I feel are great value, practical and great for eco-mamas on a mission…let me tell you about them.
The Baby Bag:
When I first went out with my newborn baby I was proud to be seen with my cutesy little baby bag…you know the one’s that almost all mothers in Dominica carry…pink or blue or some other baby colour with butterfly’s, flowers or teddy bears in a sweet little design. Yes, it was a sure sign of new motherhood for me to ditch my handbag and carry my adorable baby bag around instead.
However when my girl was about 9 months, the novelty factor of the baby bag started to wear off. I wanted something more versatile and a bit more adult looking yet still practical to carry all the necessary items I need for the little one. I started to find the baby bags too restricting in size; by the time I had packed in a set of cloth diapers, a flask for her food along with all the other change of clothes, bibs etc the small sized baby bags were bursting at the seams.
Thankfully the Batik Shop located in the midst of Roseau came to my rescue. They design a range of beautiful batik and tie dyed fabrics, clothing, bags and other crafty items. I have had several handmade bags from them before and so I went in to see if they could custom make me a bag that had a few extra pockets for baby use, a longer handle with a zipper. They rose to the challenge and made me an amazing multi-coloured bag that is perfect for our needs. At just EC$50 I found it to be an incredible bargain. The bag is sturdy and ever so practical and it easily fits all our usual items in it as well as towels when we go to the hot springs. I love it and if you are in Dominica I recommend visiting their store to see more of their products.

The Wet Bag:
My second new bag is the wet bag from Planet Wise. This bag is designed to carry wet and dirty diapers so we can use cloth when we travel and have a secure place to store them until we get home - finally I can be a cloth diapering Mama even when we are out and about! Its waterproof inner and unique design ensures that the seams are sealed tight and no liquid can escape. It also keeps in bad smells too which is definitely a bonus…I mean who wants to be known as the woman who walks around smelling of dirty diapers! The bag comes in a wide array of quality cotton designer fabrics and in 3 different sizes. I chose the medium size which can easily hold a whole days worth of dirty dipes if necessary and I also use it to carry home wet towels too.

As the name suggests, the Planet Wise Wet Bag is also good for the environment. It is reusable and thus saves using throwaway plastic bags to transport your wet things. It is PVC free with Lead free zippers. The bag is easily washable and can be thrown in the machine with the usual diaper load when it needs a rinse. I’m really happy with it and trying hard to resist the temptation to buy a few more…just to colour co-ordinate with our moods! I bought my wet bag with my diaper order from Cloth Diaper Outlet.
So Mama’s got brand new baby bags and is super happy with both of them! Please feel free to share your bargains or great finds with other readers by posting a comment.
